Amsonia illustris - Ozark Bluestar
2–3' × 2–3' | Pale blue blooms, late spring to early summer | Upright clumping perennial with glossy foliage | Full sun to part shade, average to moist soils | Attracts pollinators, excellent fall color
A multi-season star for the middle layer of the prairie garden. Blue flowers in early to mid Spring top narrow foliage, a bit more broader than A. hubrechtii, but flashes the same brilliant yellow in the fall.
Pair with summer bloomers, coarse and vertical textures, and red fall foliage; maybe Rhus, Silphium, and a couple of grasses with Antennaria and Phlox flowing underfoot.
