Chelone glabra - White Turtlehead
White Turtlehead’s upright stems are topped with white, turtle-shaped blossoms that brighten wet meadows and streambanks from late summer into fall. Preferring moist soils and partial sun, it’s a natural fit for rain gardens and pond edges. Its foliage is essential food for the Baltimore Checkerspot butterfly caterpillar.
Moist-site companions: Blue Flag Iris, Swamp Milkweed, Joe-Pye Weed.
Wildlife border: Cardinal Flower, Sneezeweed, Ironweed.
